Catholic Bishops’ Conference elects new president
Budapest, September 2 (MTI) – The Hungarian Catholic Bishops’ Conference (MKPK) has elected Andras Veres, diocesan bishop of Szombathely, as its president, the press service of the conference told MTI on Wednesday.
Veres was elected for a five-year term at MKPK’s regular autumn session.
His predecessor, Cardinal Peter Erdo, Archbishop of Esztergom-Budapest, served as MKPK president since 2005.
The conference declared in 2006 under Erdo’s proposal that the post can be filled for not more than two terms.
