Hungary men’s futsal team qualifies for FIFA World Cup play-offs
According to mlsz.hu, Hungary’s men’s futsal team have made it through a tough FIFA Futsal World Cup main-round group to qualify in second place for next year’s play-off stage.
A crucial 5-2 matchday 1 victory over Belgium, one which featured a stunning volleyed equaliser from János Rábl to make the score 1-1, was followed by a 5-4 win against England which perhaps should have been easier given that Hungary led 4-0 early in the second half, before a 5-3 final-day loss against group winners Ukraine, ranked 8th in the FIFA world rankings, ensured they progress as group runners-up to the two-legged play-offs which are to be held in on 22 March and 12 April 2016.
There, Hungary are certain to face one of the other six main-round group winners, a list of which includes Spain, Portugal, Italy, Kazakhstan, Russia and Azerbaijan, for on of the seven European places on offer at the World Cup in Colombia in September-October 2016. The play-off draw will be made in Belgrade on 12th February 2016.
