KSH: Mađari manje siromašni u 2013
Budapest (MTI) – The ratio of Hungarians facing risks of poverty or social exclusion was 31.1 percent in 2013, 2.4 percentage points down from a year earlier, according to a study by the Central Statistical Office (KSH) published on Wednesday.
Differences in income have somewhat grown, but those differences are still much below the European average, the report said.
In the year surveyed, 14.6 percent of the total population were poor in terms of their relative income, 23.9 percent were seriously deprived and 9.2 percent lived in low work intensity households, the study said.
In 2013, people earned 1.3 million forints per capita, before tax, 4.3 percent on top of the previous year.
Nearly one third of all incomes came from community sources, mostly in the form of pensions, representing an annual 389,000 forints per capita.
Household consumption stayed more or less at 2012 levels, housing costs accounting for a quarter of household spending. Having paid for their daily expenses including housing, meals and transportation, households had about 40 percent of their regular income left to spend on further consumption.
The study was based on information based on 9,220 household questionnaires and 19,121 personal interviews with adults.
