Predsjednik potiče očuvanje na Svjetski dan voda
Budapest (MTI) – President Janos Ader urged all Hungarians to do their part in preserving for future generations the water the country has been endowed with on the occasion of World Water Day on Sunday.
Speaking in Heviz, home to one of the largest thermal lakes in the world, Ader said it is the joint responsibility of all Hungarians to keep Hungary a country of water.
He noted that the lake in Heviz could have been lost if it not for the work of “a few brave people” who “put aside their political differences” 26 years ago.
The government of Hungary decided in 1989 to cease bauxite mining in nearby Nyirad because the activity was dewatering the surrounding area, notably the lake in Heviz.
The lake in western Hungary draws more than one million visitors a year, many of whom benefit from its therapeutic qualities.
