Upon the initiative of Budapest Airport and the Responsible Gastro-hero Foundation, restaurants and cafés operating at Ferenc Liszt International Airport will not hand out single use plastic straws in August.
Thanks to this initiative, the quantity of disposable plastic products could decrease significantly at the airport, as whenever possible, food and beverage outlets will serve drinks without plastic straws (unless passengers insist on using them), or with sustainable, biodegradable straws in August.
Thanks to the project, a significantly smaller quantity of plastic waste will be generated.
Sustainable operation is a key priority for Budapest Airport, which therefore commenced discussions on food and beverage outlets located at the airport serving drinks without plastic straws in September as well.
To further reduce the use of plastic products, Budapest Airport has installed a total of 11 drinking water fountains at the terminals, with three more under procurement.
Passengers thus have access to outstanding quality drinking water at the airport without having to purchase bottled water. Drinking fountains will be available in departures and arrivals as well. Budapest Airport encourages all passengers to carry and use their own water containers, instead of purchasing more PET bottles. Everyone can take their empty containers through passenger security screening and into the transit area, where the new drinking fountains are available in several locations.
