The 7th session of the Hungarian-Azerbaijani Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation (ICEC) was held in Budapest at the premises of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade on Friday, February 14.
It began with the meeting of the Working Group on Energy, comprised of Mr. Pál Ságvári (Ambassador-at-large), Mr. Csaba Marosvári (Lead Business Development Expert of MVM Group), Mr. András Bácsi-Nagy (Head of International Public Affairs MOL Group), Mr. Márk Szabó (Advisor Associate MOL Group) and Mr. István Lőrinc Szabó (Desk Officer, Department for Energy and Climate Diplomacy), representing the Hungarian side, and Mr. Zaur Mammadov (Head of Staff, Ministry of Energy), Mr. Vitaliy Baylarbayov (Deputy Vice President for Investments and Marketing, SOCAR) and Mr. Ali Shahbazov (Head of Foreign affairs office, SOCAR), representing the Azerbaijani delegation.
The group discussed the issues of energy security, delivery of natural gas to Europe and expanding cooperation in the area of renewable energy.
On the same day, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, Mr. Péter Szijjártó, and the Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Sahil Babayev, met to discuss bilateral economic relations in the framework of the ICEC followed by the Plenary Session in an extended format, i.e. with participation of the members of the Azerbaijani delegation and the representatives of Hungarian private and state-owned entrepreneurship.
Following extensive discussions during the session, the two ministers made the press statements and signed the protocol fixing current achievements and setting future goals. In his speech, Mr. Szijjártó noted that he visits very often Azerbaijan, but admitted that the country develops so rapidly that for him it is hard to catch up with the progress.
“With my every visit, it’s almost a new country”, said the minister, adding that his country supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan.
In the afternoon, another meeting was held at the Ministry of Human Capacities of Hungary between the minister, Prof. Miklós Kásler, and his Azerbaijani counterpart, Mr. Sahil Babayev.
