It sounds strange in english, but it is a very good interpretation! How sad, that after the evil, illegitimate Treaty of Trianon the hungarians have only “birthplaces”, but they don’t have a big and strong “homecountry, Heimat, Vaterland”, which would be able to defence its nation, preventing the real and economic wars, mostly generated by the most sinful coloniser, exploitative, ruler countries, like Austria, Germany, French, England, USA. Radnóti shared the faith of the innocent hungarian folk, he was more “magyar” than religious, his poetry is a popular and very beloved gem in the hungarian literature.
