EP preparing to adopt resolution on applying sanctions to govts that steal EU funds, says DK MEP
An opposition Democratic Coalition (DK) MEP has said that the European Parliament is preparing to carry a resolution on Wednesday stating that action must be taken from 1 January against “governments that steal EU funds”.
Klára Dobrev told an online press conference on Tuesday that not a single word of the legislation on the rule of law had changed in spite of claims to the contrary.
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, she insisted, had lost his battle at last week’s European summit “because there will be a rule-of-law mechanism from the start of next year”.
Dobrev said the prime minister had been forced to explain why he had wielded Hungary’s veto before withdrawing it, and his explanation was “a bluff”.
