Foreign minister: Europe ‘should be grateful’ to Salvini
“The whole of Europe should be grateful” to Matteo Salvini, former interior minister of Italy, for “saving his homeland and saving Europe,” Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said on Facebook on Saturday.
Szijjártó noted that Salvini was facing trial for blocking a ship of illegal migrants off the coasts of Italy in 2019.
Szijjártó insisted that Salvini had tried to “prevent the violation of European borders and the trampling on European laws”. “Grazie Matteo!” he added.

Szijjarto is a complete ignorant who does not even know the basic facts. He speaks just to speak…
Salvini is not yet undergoing any trial. Following the decision of the Italian parliament to deprive Salvini of the political immunity he did not hesitate to try take advantage of ( so much for the populist who claims he is like all common people….yes indeed he is as hypocrit as many people,) Palermo judges started with the preliminary stage of investigation, they are collecting and analysing the documents which have been submitted to their attention by both accusing prosecutors and Salvini’s defense attorneys. When this preliminary phase of investigation ends, they will decide whether Salvini is to be tried or not. Again, it is the preliminary stage of investigation, not the trial. Not yet.
