Hungary to ban New Year’s Eve fireworks?
The co-chair of LMP, the Hungarian green party, Erzsébet Schmuck, submitted the relevant bill. Of course, one can say that the ruling majority will not accept it, which seems like a sure thing. However, the party is a member of the united opposition, and Erzsébet Schmuck will probably be an MP even after 2022. If the opposition wins and she maintains her proposal, there is a chance that the new government will, in practice, ban NYE fireworks.
According to 24.hu, the LMP politician would amend the weapons law. She would like to ban fireworks in public spaces, except for organised events supervised by a pyrotechnician. If the parliament accepts her proposal,
people will only be able to use fireworks outside populated areas, on their private property.
She said that the majority does not use such devices, and a healthy environment is everybody’s right. She added that both wild and domestic animals deserve protection from the sound of fireworks. Furthermore, fireworks cause air and soil pollution.
