Justice Minister Judit Varga, at an event held in Parliament on Friday, called for “a strong, diverse Europe based on families and sovereign nations”.
Speaking at an award ceremony for students who took part in a competition entitled Hungary and the Central European Region in the European Union, Varga said the EU should stand for strong nations, for without them the bloc would “remain weak”.
The head of the European Commission’s mission in Hungary, Gábor Zupko, said that whereas certain issues were easier to respond to as part of a community with common interests and values, some issues were addressed more effectively at local or regional level.
Alongside Varga and Zupko, Speaker of Parliament László Köver presented the awards.
