Opposition to suspend the ongoing upgrade of the Paks nuclear power plant?
Hungary should undergo the most sweeping political change of the past 30 years in 2022 so that it could embark on a sustainable path, Márton Kanász-Nagy, co-leader of the opposition LMP party, said on Friday.
Â
“On the ruins of the Fidesz-led government we should build a balanced country which lives in peace with itself and its neighbours,” he told a press conference on Facebook. LMP gives priority to the general prosperity of the population over profit, Kanász-Nagy said. Erzsébet Schmuck, the other co-leader, said that the aggravating ecological crisis could not be surmounted if the current political trends continued to prevail.
Â
While LMP insists that out of the troika of the economy, society and environment neither could be sacrificed, ruling Fidesz often goes as far as to deny climate change, she said. Schmuck vowed that
LMP would suspend the ongoing upgrade of the Paks nuclear power plant,
give priority to renewable energy and subsidise the heat insulation of 100,000 homes a year.
