The sexual harassment scandal linked to acclaimed stage and film director Péter Gothár cannot be left without consequences, Gergely Gulyás, the head of the PM’s Office, told a regular press briefing on Thursday.
Gulyás rejected that the leader of the Katona József theatre, “who kept it all under wraps … is getting off scot free”.
Regarding the culture law package passed by parliament on Wednesday, Gulyás said the artistic freedom of theatres was not to be meddled with.
If a theatre funded by the local municipality aspires for large sums of state funding, however, the state will have to conclude an agreement with the theatre’s operator, Gulyás said, adding that such an arrangement is in the theatre’s interest too as it ensures long-term funding.
