Romanian-Moldovan national sentenced for people smuggling in Hungary
A Romanian-Moldovan national has been sentenced for three years in prison and expelled from Hungary for six years for people smuggling, the Veszprém County Prosecutor’s Office said on Thursday.
The 26-year-old man attempted to smuggle six Afghan men to Austria. The men entered Hungary illegally from Serbia, with the help of an Afghan smuggler, and deposited 3,500 euros for the accused to receive if they successfully cross to Austria, the prosecutor’s office told MTI.
Police stopped the smuggler’s vehicle with a Romanian number plate and detained the driver and the passengers in western Hungary, it said in a statement.
The ruling is binding.
