Romanian national arrested for alleged rape
A Romanian man has been arrested after allegedly raping a woman in Budapest’s 12th district earlier this month, the Budapest prosecutor’s office said on Wednesday.
The man is suspected of having assaulted a woman who was walking home on the night of June 18, the office said in a statement.
The suspect followed the woman, attempted to strike up a conversation with her, and assaulted her in a stairwell.
The suspect allegedly forced the victim onto the ground and began choking her before raping her. The victim resisted and began screaming, after which the suspect ran away. The victim suffered a broken finger.
The suspect was soon caught by police and placed under arrest.
