Ambassador of Canada to Hungary, Slovenia and Bosnia & Herzegovina
Ms. Lisa Helfand (LLB, Osgoode Hall Law School) began working for the Government of Canada in 1989 as a Foreign Service Officer with the then Department of External Affairs. In Ottawa, Ms. Helfand has held various assignments, including as Deputy Director with the Southern Europe Division (1999-2001); and as Deputy Director, then Director, with the Defence and Security Relations Division (2001-2004). She graduated from the Senior Course at the NATO Defence College in 2005.
Ms. Helfand has served abroad as Second Secretary in London (1990-1993), First Secretary and Consul in Belgrade (1997-1999), Deputy Head of Mission in Tel Aviv (2005-2008), and again in London as Political Counsellor (2008-2010). Most recently, Ms. Helfand was Director of the Peace Operations and Fragile States Policy Division (2010-2013). Ms. Helfand is Canada’s Ambassador to Hungary, with concurrent accreditation to the Republic of Slovenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
