LMP: guvernul a abandonat familiile monoparentale
The government abandoned the cause of single parents by not supporting the green opposition, LMP’s suggestions on the issue, the party told the press on Saturday.
The party has asked for a targeted raise in the family allowance for single parents, 62 percent of which live in poverty, LMP board member Júlia Ábrahám said. The family allowance has not been raised for ten years, she noted.
Ábrahám bemoaned that the government is hesitant to change the “deeply flawed” regulations on child support. LMP suggests that the growth of wealth of each parent should be examined when necessary to ensure proportionate child support.
LMP submitted a 10-point package of suggestions in July, which they say would “provide tangible help” to single-parent families. The document includes suggestions to a differentiated raise of the family allowance, a re-regulation of the child support system, extending the benefits for large families to single parents, a flexible childcare system, tax cuts for employers and legal counselling, LMP’s statement said.
