Elsewhere Diosgyőr scrambled a point away at Ferencváros, MTK secured a morale-boosting 2-0 home win at home to out-of-form Mezőkövesd, ten-man Debrecen eases their relegation fears with a 2-1 victory over basement team Gyirmót and Paks maintained their unbeaten spring record with a 1-1 draw away at Újpest. Vasas, Videoton and Ferencváros all dropped points again at the weekend, as Újpest got back to winning ways, in-form Mezőkövesd chalked up another victory, and Honvéd remain in the chase. The Hungarian Football League hits bottom in 10th round

According to vg.hu, there almost would have been a half house full at the new pitch of Ferencváros, if all the spectators were present who also visited the Hungarian Football League’s weekday round matches before. The matches of the weekday round were watched by 10,314 people all together, which signifies an average of 1,719 spectators. This is an immensive hollow point in the 2016-2017 season as the number of total spectators lagged behind with 4,000 from the worst round until this point. The most visited match was held in Felcsút: the Videoton-Ferencváros match was held there due to stadium renovation works. ... Read more

Hungarian League, 8th round: Vasas continue to top the table

According to mlsz.hu, Videoton deservedly claimed all three points at their temporary home of Felcsút courtesy of a 3-0 win against in-form Haladás. Haladás came off the back of a four-game winning streak and would have been happy to see that of Vidi’s four most recent signings, only Marko Scsepovic had made the starting lineup with József Varga on the bench and Attila Fiola and Anel Hadzic not in the squad at all. The visitors started the better but the hosts soon came back into the game and started directing play, Danko Lazovic going closest to opening the scoring so ... Read more

Title-holders Ferencváros stuttered again but so did rivals Vasas as four of the six NBI matches ended in stalemate this last weekend. We round up the action here. Ferencváros started the match the busier of the two teams and took an early lead through Marco Djuricin but couldn’t extend that lead despite six shots on target in the first 45 minutes. The game continued in the same direction after the break and therefore it was a surprise when Mezőkövesd equalised, perhaps predictably from a set-piece ... Read more

Hungarian League, Round 5: Visitors Vasas shock Fradi to take top spot

According to MLSZ, a late winner from Ievgen Pavlov helped Vasas emerge victorious in the Groupama Aréna as they leapfrogged leaders Ferencváros with a surprise 2-1 win on Saturday. Everything looked to be going as planned as Thomas Doll’s team carved out chance after chance in the first half-hour and it was only their forwards’ inaccuracy that Vasas had to thank for the untouched scoreline. Instead, it was the visiting team who took the lead through defender Tamás Vaskó from a corner but Fradi stayed on the front foot and equalised on the stroke of half-time thanks to Florian Trinks. ... Hungarian League, Round 4: Five out of six fixtures end in victories for the visitors – Photos, Videos

A remarkable weekend in NBI saw five out of six fixtures end in victories for the visitors with only title favourites Ferencváros failing to win. Indeed, there wasn’t a single goal scored by any home team! Here, we round up all the action. Thomas Doll named an unchanged Ferencváros lineup following last week’s 6-2 home win over Diosgyőr but the goals dried up away at Paks despite several presentable opportunities in the opening minutes. The hosts worked their way back into the game but this only resulted in both teams cancelling each other in a largely attritional match thereafter. The ... Read more

Hungarian League, Round 3: Újpest and Debrecen post maiden wins of the new season

Újpest and Debrecen claimed their first wins of the season while two teams kept their 100% winning records intact. Here, we round up all the weekend’s action in NBI. Two own goals within the space of three second-half minutes were the extraordinary feature of this weekend’s fixture in Sopron, the temporary home of Szombathelyi Haladás who entertained Budapest Honvéd on Saturday. Little of note had happened before Honvéd defender Ádám Hajdú beat Barnabás Rácz to Haladás winger Péter Halmosi’s cross in the 74th minute, only to succeed in diverting the ball into his own goal. Two minutes later though, fortunes ... Read more
