Orbán meets Democratic Party of Albania leader
Hungary’s ruling Fidesz and the Democratic Party of Albania are both co-members of the EPP.
Basha and Orbán were in agreement that stability in the western Balkans is a key issue for the future of Europe, Bertalan Havasi said in a statement. Hungary wants to promote this by all possible means, Orbán said.
The talks focused on current European political issues and ways to strengthen Hungarian-Albanian economic and political relations, the statement said.
The sides agreed to strengthen cooperation and regularly exchange experiences.
Orbán in talks with head of CoE parliament assembly
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has held talks with Pedro Agramunt, president of the Council of Europe’s parliamentary assembly, in Malta, ahead of a congress of the European People’s Party (EPP). The two officials discussed the migration crisis and legal issues connected with the defence of Europe’s external border, Orbán’s press chief said on Wednesday.
At the talks with the one-time head of the EPP, Orbán said that Hungarian measures to strengthen controls at the border served both the interests of Hungarians and European citizens. He insisted that certain NGOs with foreign backgrounds were abusing their positions both financially and politically, as well as spearheading various legal disputes. But the Hungarian government is committed to protecting the border of both Hungary and the EU, Orbán said.
Orbán and Agramunt also discussed concepts related to the future of Europe, Bertalan Havasi, the PM’s press chief, said.
