Lazar supports making politicians’ family members financially more transparent
Budapest (MTI) – Cabinet chief Janos Lazar said he would support a proposal to make the financial situation of politicians’ family members more transparent in a way it respects privacy rights.
Lazar told local daily Delmagyarorszag in an interview published on Friday that it is very important to prevent accusations that lawmakers or their family members keep things secret about their finances. He said he supports starting a fair and sensible process of consultations on how increased transparency without violating family members’ right to privacy could be ensured.
“As a member of parliament, and also as a husband and father, I will support a fair and reasoned legal amendment to this end”, he added.
Lazar, who is also an MP for the southern Hungarian city Hodmezovasarhely and its region, noted that already under his tenure as mayor of the city, he made public his and representatives’ asset declaration forms on the council’s website.
Commenting on a Budapest property recently purchased for Lazar’s son and reported in the media, he said it had been purchased with joint efforts by the family. The flat was sold by a bank after the company that was leasing it had gone bankrupt, he added.
