Budapest (MTI) – A new border crossing will be opened, an existing one expanded and a new public road bridge built on the Ukraine-Hungary border to compensate for an unsufficient number of crossings, the foreign ministry said on Friday.
The ministry noted in a statement that there are five crossings on the 133km border between Hungary and Ukraine, and the distance between them averages 27kms, well below the western European average of 2-4kms.
The prime ministers of the two countries signed an letter of intent in 2013 to start a comprehensive border development project. Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto and the head of the Transcarpathia general assembly Volodimir Csubirko signed an agreement about planned developments on Jan. 23.
