Lufthansa Technik AG, the branch of the German Lufthansa Group responsible for repairing and maintaining aeroplanes, is planning to open a new service centre located in Miskolc, in the North-Eastern part of Hungary. The service centre will not be for Lufthansa planes exclusively, other airlines’ engines will get fixed there as well.
According to Forbes, approximately 43 billion Forints (135,200,748.08 EUR) will be spent on building the service centre which will offer around 400 people new jobs. Apart from Lufthansa’s own aircrafts, other international airlines will also get the opportunity to have their planes fixed in Miskolc.
Philip Mende, the vice president of Lufthansa Technik AG, said that they bought land of about 20 thousand square metres from the Miskolc local government, in the name of the new company responsible for the investment named Lufthansa Miskolc Technik.
Miskolc was chosen as the hub from numerous other possibilities worldwide.
In the end, the developed infrastructure, the competitive economic and business environment, the well-trained labour force and the supportive atmosphere all contributed to the Hungarian city coming out on top.
The opening of the new service centre is set to be 2022; however, hiring starts this year.
The employees will get the chance to receive further training in Ireland or Germany.
Therefore, the money designated to cover the costs of the investment includes not only the construction expenses but also the financing necessary for the training of the employees.
The Hungarian government is offering financial support to help establish the factory. Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó announced launching the investment.
