Hungarian rockstar releases new ode to his homeland
Zoltán Téglás, the frontman of US-based punk rock band Ignite, has released a new song dedicated to his only love: Budapest. The singer, who was born in California but grew up in Hungary, confessed his feelings to the Hungarian capital in a touching new song titled “SIT BY THE NÁD AT THE TÓ.”
You can watch the video clip of the song on Index, and by doing so, you will be captivated by the rockstar’s ode to his homeland. As he put it: “The song is about being homesick, that feeling I get when I’m in America. It’s also about me rushing back home whenever I have the chance.
First stop, Veresegyház: a delicious meal of cabbage pasta with my grandma and a shot of pálinka with uncle Feri. Come nightfall, I head to Budapest, the most beautiful city in the world, where I spend the night partying with my friends: and I feel at home.”
Trees feature heavily in the clip as the singer himself fought for years to protect them, and later on, he financed their replantation. The title sounds strange at first: “sit by the nád at the tó” is obviously funny to Hungarians but most English-speakers would have no idea what “nád” and “tó” mean. When asked about this, the singer replied:
“Budapest is very popular with tourists: pretty buildings, great food, etc. They might even learn a bit of Hungarian: I encourage those who listen to this song to find out what “tó” means. Why wouldn’t they?”
Zoli band, the official name of his group, is his solo project that has been resurrected countless times. Zoltán himself is the lead singer of punk rock band Ignite and was formerly the soloist of the rock band Pennywise.
