No more tricking with the speedometers in Hungary?

The National Transport Authority (NKH) is setting up a database which is going to list the most important features of a vehicle before it’s released, the results of regular check-ups and repairs, it’s index results, and the vehicle identification information that is listed on the vehicle’s licence, writes Világgazdaság.

The public will have electronic access to the records of the vehicles without the need for any certificates or identification. Future customers will have a clearer picture about the car they intend to purchase, and the database can also be used for statistical purposes without revealing the owners’ identity.

Several countries have long been collecting data about the vehicles in order to know more about how the value of a car changes. Világgazdaság was informed that one part of the database is already available to the public; according to the Central Office for Administrative and Electronic Public Services (KEKKH), on average 6000 people have used the recently launched Motor vehicle data query service so far in every month.

The available data can help many people to get a clearer picture about the car they intend to purchase (how many times it had to be repaired, how many kilometres it has run etc.). In 2015, 550.000 used vehicles were purchased, which is 11% more than in 2014, and 77.000 new cars were sold.
