Qubit reported that it is unknown whether the Hungarian government will order a curfew. Many try to guess why it has not been introduced yet or when it will be. But when is it the right time for a nation to introduce an order like this?Â
If a pandemic spreads across an entire country, a few weeks of curfew cannot stop it.Â
If it is introduced sooner than the pandemic starts, it will cause unnecessary damages for the economy, but if it is introduced when it is too late, the spreading of the virus will continue. Scientists say if the number of infected people is estimated to be 5,000 and one subject can infect two others, the curfew should be introduced 33 days before the pandemic’s major outbreak.Â
The curfew should last for at least 50 days to decrease the number of infected people to half a million.Â
The government may decide to order a curfew, but if it has not been introduced yet, it probably means that it is an unnecessary step to lock the whole nation inside their homes. On the other hand, self-isolation and self-quarantine and staying at home are also equal to curfews and have the same results and effects. The end of a curfew does not mean starting normal life again. Schools, universities, and other establishments still need to be closed after the end of the ban for at least three or four weeks, otherwise, the pandemic starts again.Â
On March 26, the number of infected people in Hungary was 261. According to a recent online study, 77% of Hungarians think that a curfew should be introduced as soon as possible to stop the spreading of the coronavirus.Â
If it is introduced, it means that only people who go to work, buy groceries, or go to the hospital will be allowed to be on the streets.Â
