Teachers’ trade union insists protests serve children’s interest
Budapest (MTI) – The PDSZ teachers’ trade union said “it’s a big problem” if the government office chief fails to understand the reasons for teachers’ disaffection or the fact that they are protesting in the interests of “children, public education and the country’s future”.
PDSZ leader László Mendrey issued a statement in response to János Lázár’s Thursday press briefing in which he accused the trade union of “blackmailing” the government.
Mendrey said if Lázár does not understand that school operator Klik, which has accumulated debts of 17 billion forints (EUR 54m), is “not an indicator of a mistake but the mistake itself, then he is not a responsibly thinking politician”.
Mendrey added that freeing up the textbook market would serve the interest of schools rather than the so-called “textbook lobby” that Lázár insisted was behind calls to abolish central control over textbooks.

“Big problem” if the government office chief fails to understand the reasons for teachers disaffection or the fact that they are protesting in the interests of “children, public education and the countries future.” Dream on, PDSZ and Mendrey László. The problem is with you, not the government. Take your thinking back prior to 2010, when the Socialists were in power, and schools were closed down, many teachers lost their jobs, and their wages were slashed. You trade unionist and teachers didn’t go on strike or demonstrate. It was the days of Socialism, and a government run by Gyurcsány (an ex-Communist Youth Leader) and a bunch of hypocritical Socialists and thieves. So why didn’t the teachers go on strike and hold demonstrations? Why!! Because most of the teachers and union leaders were, and still are, Communists and Socialists.
Mendrey László spoke of interests. A teachers interest is and should be in the interest of children, afterall they are teaching the children, it is what they were trained for. The public education is paramount, because all children should be taught the same at the same time in order to stick to the corriculum laid down by the ministery of education in order to satisfy the examiners. The old education system went into disrepair and lost billions of forints under the Socialists, and therefore the present government had to come up with a new strategy to bring the education system back on course. So, how can you say that Lázár János is not a responsibly thinking man? Teachers throughout history have blakmailed governments, for one thing or another, so this is not new. Threatening to go on stike is typified as blackmail. Teachers protests and strikes have no connection with the children, public education or the countries future, as these three point to the teachers themselves. Teachers get greedy, and because they seem to be a little more educated than average, they put themslves on a pedistall and make themselves into little gods. It is true though, children of all ages need educating, in some countries it is law, so we do need teachers. However, as with doctors, factory workers, engineers etc, as with teachers, they choose themselves what line of work they do, and accept the rules when they take on the job.
I think teachers should start waking up to what has been going on over the past six years, and look at what this FIDESZ government has been doing to build not only the education system, but all working systems in Hungary. Teachers wages have gone up three times since 2013, or had you not noticed? The government has been developing this country over the past six years, and people have got a lot more now than what they had prior to 2010. What the Socialist took away, this government has replenished almost three fold. The future is what the government of today is about, not about the demands imposed on them by unions. The childrens interests, the peoples interests, and this land called Hungary, is in safe hands with Orbán Viktor and the FIDESZ-KDNP government, and deserve all credit given to them.
