FM Szijjártó in talks with Monaco ahead of Hungary’s Council of Europe presidency
Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó has said European countries that Hungary has less active cooperation with, such as Monaco, should be consulted in preparation for its presidency of the Council of Europe.
Szijjártó said on Facebook on Monday that Hungary has maintained diplomatic relations with the Duchy for only five years. “At the same time, our positions on the importance of environmental protection and digitisation are highly similar,” he said.
He noted that the European Union has been negotiating an association agreement with San Marino, Andorra and Monaco.
“We support this process,” the minister said. “We want the EU to strengthen its relations with these European countries as soon as possible.”
Hungary will take over the CoE presidency on May 21.
