5 most beautiful Hungarian cities to visit
One of the things that tourists love about Hungary is its casinos. Beautiful casinos all over the country offer games like slots and poker. So, when you are not playing in an online casino, you can always saunter into one of these spaces and enjoy meeting other players. Plus, it gives you a chance to tour some of the best cities in Hungary, such as the following:
1. Budapest
People traveling to Hungary cannot quite leave without setting their eyes on this city. Doing so would leave them yearning to see a capital that has won several awards over the years. So, what makes it so unique, and what spots should you not miss?
This city boasts two parts. One is industrial and features the modern architecture you’d see in most European cities. And the other is more historical and is a great way to delve into what led to the growth of Budapest.
As you tour these distinct city regions, be sure to stop at popular spots such as:
- The Heroes Square,
- The Thermal Baths, e.g., the Rudas Bath,
- The Parliament, and
- The Buda Castle.
Did we mention that the city has 86 museums? If you are keen on exploring the history and culture of Hungary, touring some of these museums would be a good place to start.
2. Debrecen
This city, the second most inhabited in Hungary, is home to Calvinist Rome. Besides that, it boasts a reasonable cost of living. Residents can enjoy great schools, medical facilities, and job opportunities. So, if you’re considering moving to Hungary, you can always consider this option. If not, you can travel to the city in August to catch the Flower Carnival!
3. Szeged
People who are after experiences go to Szeged for many reasons. First, it has many romantic spots along River Tisza where couples can share memories. And when you are not walking along the river, you can indulge in the culinary experiences in the many restaurants. Most of the foods you will eat tie to the town’s culture, and you will thus enjoy authentic tastes. For example, their fish soup is a common culinary option for most travelers and does not disappoint.
Oh, and this town is also home to Pick Salami. It would be a great idea to enjoy some while you are around!
4. Eger
Have you read about the siege of Eger? This battle dates to the 16th century. Back then, the odds were against Hungarians winning the battle. After all, the Turkish were strong and had overpowered other regions. But Hungarians were not quick to lose hope. Instead, they held strong and even had their women join in the battle at a time when gender roles held strong. So, they won the battle, and the castle is a testament to this. It would be a fantastic place to tour as you’d see the Hungarian resilience.
Besides the castle, you can indulge in thermal baths, tour the Géza Gárdonyi memorial house, or even walk through the town.
5. Pécs
If you love old towns, you will enjoy this southeast historical town. It was once in the hands of the Ottoman Empire. Thus, you will find a mosque in its center. And as you tour the city, you will learn much about its former inhabitants. Take the ceramic and pottery industries as an example. Hungary owes its fame to the Hollóházi, the Herendi, and the Zsolnay pieces. You will encounter many Zsolnay pieces in this town, including the Museum and the Quarter of town.
If touring museums and learning about history and arts does not call to you, maybe the outdoors will! You can always go to Baradla, a stalactite cave near the Slovakian border. It boasts beauty and extraordinary acoustics and is an underground way to Slovakia! While you may not cross to Slovakia, it’s fascinating to know it’s so close and yet so far!
