Fonogram Awards – Hungarian Music Prize in 2014
The Fonogram Prize Award Ceremony organized by the Hungarian Association of Publishers of Sound recordings (MAHASZ) was held in the Akvárium in Budapest last week. During the event thirteen Hungarian and six foreign musicians were awarded with this prize in their own categories by a professional jury – kulturpart.hu reported.
The audience could vote for the Song of the Year, the winner was the song called “Egyetlen” sung by the Hungarian Deniz, while László Dés, the noted Hungarian artist got the Life Achievement Award. According to the kulturpart.hu, the Bonjour, c’est Pop deux album of Poster Boy became the best Hungarian classical pop-rock album, while the song called Sorry of the Biebers won in the category of Hungarian Modern Pop-rock. The album called “Darabok” of the Vad Fruttik band was chosen as the Best Hungarian Alternative and Indie Rock album of the Year.
The latest Zagar album (Light Leaks) won in the category of the Best Hungarian Electronic Albums and Records, while the Halott Pénz hip-hop band and the metal band of Peta Lukács were also awarded with the Fonogram Prize in the categories of the Best Hungarian Rap and Hip-hop Songs and the Best Hungarian Rock Songs as well as.
The song of Mary Nótár (“Jó a stílusom”) became the Best Hungarian Traditional Pop Music of the Year, while the Irigy Hónaljmirigy group won in the category of the Best Contemporary Entertaining Music. Eszter Bíró singer recieved her award for the Best Child Album of the Year. During the Fonogram Prize Award Ceremony, the Best New artist of the Year 2014 became Bogi, the young Hungarian musician.
In the category of the Best Jazz Album of the Year the jazz album of Sárik Péter Trió won the first place while the album of the Kerekes Band (Folklore Man) was awarded in the category of the Best Hungarian Folk Album. As it was mentioned above, the song called “Egyetlen” by Deniz recieved the Song of the Year Prize.
Furthermore, those foreign artists were also awarded whose music have been presented in the Hungarian music market. Here is the list of the foreign winners:
• James Blunt: Moon Landing album – The best classical pop-rock album of the year
• Ellie Goulding: Halcyon Days album – The best modern pop-rock album of the year
• Artic Monkeys: AM album – The best alternative and indie rock album of the year
• Volbeat Outlaw: Gentlemen & Shady Ladies album – The best hard rock or metal album of the year
• Daft Punk: Random Access Memory album – The best electronic music album of the year
• Dizzee Rascal: The Fifth album – The best rap or hip-hop album of the year
During the Prize Award Ceremony László Dés, the 60 years old famous Hungarian saxophonist and composer was awarded with the Life Achievement Award.
The Fonogram Prize itself is an artistic-designed golden microphone. The members of the jury were the members of the Fonogram Committee, journalists as well as musicians and musical experts who chose the winners in each category.
The Fonogram Prize which is also known as the Gold Giraffe Prize was founded by the General Assembly of the MAHASZ in September, 1992. Those artist and musical albums have been awarded with these prizes that were acclaimed in Hungary by their outstanding and prominent performances in the last two years.
