Budapest’s Semmelweis Medical School Internationally Popular
Budapest, May 6 (MTI) – The medical school Semmelweis University of Budapest is popular both in Hungary and abroad, with the number of Hungarian applicants at certain departments exceeding the quota by five times and around 10,000 applications for 1,000 places available to international students, daily Magyar Nemzet said on Monday.
University rector Agoston Szel told the paper that international students pay 5-6,000 euros per semester which is considered average in European comparison but the level of training is exceptionally high. Most international students arrive from German-speaking countries and there are many from Scandinavia, Iran and Cyprus, he added.
The university’s high prestige is also due to its involvement in projects that support education development and the fact that it is located in a capital city, Szel said.
