E-PM calls on tax office head to ask information about US ban directly
Budapest (MTI) – A lawmaker for opposition party Egyutt has called on Ildiko Vida, the head of the Hungary’s tax office (NAV) who is implicated in the US entry ban issue, to request information concerning US corruption allegations, the E-PM party alliance said on Friday.
Zsuzsanna Szelenyi, Egyutt’s board member who sits as independent in parliament, called on Vida to contact Andre Goodfriend, the US embassy’s charge d’ affaires, and request a meeting with him without delay.
She also asked Vida to ensure transparency on the issue by inviting to the meeting a representative of investigative website atlatszo.hu as well as another journalist, E-PM said in a statement.
Szelenyi also calls on Vida to disclose the names of the other individuals who in her knowledge have also been blacklisted by the US.
Earlier on Friday, Zsolt Semjen, the deputy prime minister, said that the government has no knowledge as to who may be affected by the US entry ban.
Answering an written enquiry by opposition Socialist lawmaker Attila Mesterhazy, Semjen said the government had learnt about the involvement of Vida only when the tax office head had informed the economy minister on Nov. 4
