EU member states offer help to Hungary through Civil Protection Mechanism
Brussels, September 14 (MTI) – Several European Union member states, including Denmark, Bulgaria and Slovenia, have offered assistance to Hungary in handling the migrant crisis through the EU’s Civil Protection Mechanism, the European Commission said on Monday.
Hungary submitted its request for assistance on Friday when it asked the EU to send beds, sheets, blankets and heaters to help migrants in the country. The member states offered to send tents and bedding, which Hungary accepted.
The EU Civil Protection Mechanism is aimed at helping EU member states provide emergency supplies to one another. The mechanism includes all 28 member states in addition to Iceland, Macedonia, Montenegro, Norway and Serbia.
