Hungarian-Americans bombarding Donald Trump’s office with letters asking the president to appoint former Governor of New York George Pataki as the new US Ambassador to Budapest learned mno.hu.
The Hungarian lobbying group first, approached Pataki’s daughter Journalist and Writer Allison Pataki but she turned down the offer citing lack of time as she is busy working on other projects; instead, she recommended her father.
It was reported that Pataki is open to the proposal, but so far, he has not yet received a formal invitation from the president.
George Pataki’s grandfather was born in Eastern Hungary and emigrated to America in 1908.
Pataki was born in a Roman Catholic family in 1945. On his mother’s side he has Italian and Irish ancestry as well.
Pataki studied law at Yale University and entered into politics in the early eighties. He was elected Mayor of his home town of Peekskill, later going on to be elected to State Assembly, then State Senate. In 1994, Pataki ran for governor against three-term incumbent Mario Cuomo, defeating him by over a three-point margin.
The former governor of New York is a strong supporter of Donald Trump. During the Donald Trump victory celebration at the Hungarian Embassy in Washington Pataki remarked that Hungary has always been a good friend of America but the latter didn’t return the favors, which was over now.
