Jobbik rejects István Pásztor’s statement

The joint Strasbourg mission of Tamás Gaudi-Nagy, the Hungarian Hope Movement (HHM) and the Hungarian Civic Association (HCA) has achieved a major breakthrough by providing an unprecedentedly unbiased report to the representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) as well as to the key personalities of the CE about the real situation of the Hungarian community in the Voivodina region – says Jobbik MP István Szávay in his press release.

He added that the recipients of the report included Nils Muižnieks, CE’s Commissioner for Human Rights, Pedro Agramunt, leader of the Parliamentary Group of the European People’s Party, Alexei Pushkov, the leader of the CE delegation of the Russian Federation and David Davis, the Welsh member of the British House of Commons.

Jobbik, HHM and HCA aims to present the problems of the Voivodina Hungarian community that have been hushed up in international forums so far, as well as to form partnerships so that this part of our nation, which was torn away from us, could achieve its regional autonomy. The cooperating organizations focus on settling all unsolved problems of Voivodina Hungarians as soon as possible and in a reassuring manner – with special regard to stopping anti-Hungarian atrocities, abolishing discriminatory laws, ensuring proportionate representation in employment and politics – in order to prevent the further drastic decrease of the population.

Jobbik rejects the statement of István Pásztor, the president of the Voivodina Hungarian Association (VHA) made in the “Without Borders” programme of Radio Kossuth on Wednesday. Referring to the initiative of Tamás Gaudi-Nagy, Bálint László, László Rácz Szabó and Antal Bozóki, the party president stated that what they said about the situation of Voivodina Hungarians was “far from reality” and their Strasbourg campaign “brought more damage than benefit”. Pásztor said that VHA is constantly present in Brussels and Strasbourg, however, he failed to give an account of their activity there.

Jobbik finds it unacceptable that the president of VHA could not mention one single fact to support his statements. We know of no such case when Elvira Kovács, the representative of the party would have presented the problems of Voivodina Hungarians at any public event of the CE. We were sorry to see that István Pásztor openly confronted a benevolent and efficient initiative. However, we do hope that VHA will be able to review its opinion in light of the achievements.

Jobbik believes that Hungary would have significant means to represent its own national interests during Serbia’s upcoming admission to the EU. We do have reason to fear however, that Fidesz, who disowned this campaign as well, would commit a similar betrayal of Voivodina Hungarians as it did with the Hungarians of Transylvania by unconditionally supporting Romania’s EU accession.
