Latest research: How games affect the brain
Sponsored content
The video game player count is constantly on the rise, and it isn’t something we can accept just like that. Millions of young people (but also adults) play games every day, so it’s logical to pose a question: How does it affect the brain?
A little disclaimer before you continue reading – this topic is extremely complex. As such, it’s not the one that provides a straightforward or universal answer. After all, we all have different mindsets that react differently to external inputs. However, we will do our best to give a proper explanation of the subject.
For instance, what happens when you gamble online?
The answer has to do with many factors, including location and casino credibility. The best and most trusted online casino platforms in Hungary will have a positive effect on gamers because they fully comply with responsible gaming practices to protect Hungarian players from excess gambling exposure. At the same time, all of these sites offer some lucrative bonus deals, while some also come with quite versatile payment options. That way, it’s easier to choose a trustworthy platform with positive gaming effects on your mental fortitude.
But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Let’s discuss the details in the following sections.
What do scientists say about it?
Our goal is to be completely honest here, so it’s fair to mention that we aren’t psychiatrists or scientists of any kind. However, we are great at analyzing scientific reports. We recently discovered one such report that talks about the effect of gaming on the player’s brain.
In terms of cognitive skills, kids who play video games perform better than those who never have such experiences. This is not some obscure analysis, but rather well-thought research that included nearly two thousand children. In addition, the report is published on the Nation Institute of Health’s website, which gives it extra credibility. Therefore, it’s easy to see that our brains can improve due to the influence of video games.
However, we can’t confidently say the same for different genres because the report doesn’t focus on this aspect. For instance, are the so-called smart games like Sudoku even more efficient when boosting one’s cognitive abilities? We believe they are, but this requires further analysis.
Emotional reactions
The thing we must add is that gaming has a profound impact on your emotional state. It engages many regions of the brain associated with different feelings:
– Pleasure
– Reward
– Stress response
– Anticipation
All of these emotions trigger the release of neurotransmitters such as dopamine. This hormone causes feelings of achievement and satisfaction, which is why you feel so pleased when playing games. However, you must be careful with your gaming funds nonetheless.
But the impact goes well beyond that since the dynamic nature of this activity also ignites a whole scope of emotions (joy and exhilaration, to name but a couple). The overall effect is multifaceted because gaming becomes a complex stimulus for the brain.
The bottom line: Game on
With that said, the only thing to add is that responsible gaming never hurt anyone. If you approach it as an occasional source of fun, rest assured it will only make you feel better and probably even smarter. Game on!
