Motorway between Nyíregyháza, Hungary and Satu Mare, Romania to be complete soon
A motorway link between Nyíregyháza, in north-eastern Hungary, and Romania’s Satu Mare (Szatmárnémeti) will be completed by the end of 2026, the construction and transport minister said on Wednesday.
Speaking at a speedway construction in Nyírmeggyes, in north-eastern Hungary, János Lázár said the new link would be built in two phases on the Hungarian side, consisting of a 28 kilometre and a 17.5 kilometre section, respectively. Hungary’s Duna Aszfalt has started the construction of the first section, using a budget of HUF 175 billion (EUR 460 million).
The second section will cost between HUF 150-160 billion, the minister added.
The link will “remove obstacles to economic and social cooperation” between regions on either side of the border, Lázár said.
