Hungarian Bocuse d’Or team qualifies for world final
At the Bocuse d’Or European championships held in Tallinn, Estonia, Hungary’s team of chefs led by István Veres qualified in ninth place for the finals to be held in Lyon in June 2021, the head of the Hungarian Bocuse d’Or Academy, Zoltán Hamvas, told MTI on Saturday.
Hungary has competed successfully against “gastronomical superpowers” such as Italy and Spain, Hamvas said. “The competition was fierce” this year, he added.
In Lyon, Hungary will face 23 national teams from around the world, he said.
The competition raises awareness of fine dining during the coronavirus pandemic, when the hospitality industry is struggling to survive, Hamvas said.
Restaurants have to do all they can to ensure the safety of diners and to win their trust, he said. “We need to leave our comfort zone,” he said, citing as an example elite restaurants which have started to offer home delivery services.
