Vodafone is gone! Acquirer One Hungary opens flagship store in Budapest

One Hungary Magyarország 4ig

One Magyarország opened its first flagship brand store in Budapest on Monday.

As we wrote earlier, listed ICT company 4iG rebranded the commercial telecommunications services of its units Vodafone Magyarorszag, DIGI, Antenna Hungaria and Invitech under the One aegis from January 1. One tariffs have not changed although some packages have been renamed.

“Our aim is to be the first choice among Hungarian telecom operators for residential and business subscribers, in line with the One brand,” said the CEO.

Tamás Bányai noted that the integration of the services of DIGI, Invitech and Antenna Hungária into one hand is a historic moment in the Hungarian telecoms market.

The 135 shops of Vodafone and Digi, currently operating in 98 municipalities, will be merged, and the two brands will be phased out by mid-January. In response to a question from MTI, Tamás Bányai said that the complete restructuring of the network of shops, starting this year, is part of a multi-year process. He did not want to share details about the financial costs of the restructuring or the exact amount of One’s planned investments for this year.

In a statement, the company stressed that One’s mobile tariffs have not changed since 1 January. Customers will find some packages under a different name, but the content and tariffs of the packages will be the same as the previous Vodafone and DIGI tariff packages, they said.

The company is offering banded discounts to customers with multiple services, and has introduced new mobile subscriptions with unlimited data and talk for both residential and small business customers, as well as new solutions for prepaid customers.

Among the company’s product offerings, Tamás Bányai highlighted that One is the only telecoms operator in Hungary to offer the full range of RTL+ Premium services in its packages at no extra cost, giving customers access to Champions League, Europa League and Conference League matches, as well as exclusive RTL in-house content, films and series.

In response to a question, he said that work was underway to enable RTL+ subscribers to access premium content with their current password as part of a One subscription.

The company promised to keep the targets set in the strategic agreement with the government. Currently, 2 million households are being reached by broadband internet and in the future, hybrid and all-fibre network deployments will continue, while the development of a 5G mobile network with gigabit download speeds will also be “ramped up”.
In the two years since 4iG acquired ownership in Vodafone, three times as many base stations have been deployed than in the two years before, he added.

Vodafone’s consolidated revenue fell to 233.883 billion forints in 2023 from 287.747 billion forints in the previous year, with profit after tax at 1.384 billion forints, down from 50.967 billion forints in 2022.

The interior of the brand store in the capital’s Westend City Center was the work of KVB Design in London, Room Design Studio and a team from 4iG.

9 Practical Reasons for Using a Phone Case

mobile phone case

Now that smartphones serve as a primary device for communication, work, and entertainment, protecting them is more important than ever. Smartphones aren’t cheap and can cost upwards of $1,500 for a good Android or iPhone model with all the best features. Even the basic models run around $1,000.

While many people view phone cases as optional accessories, they actually serve a host of practical purposes that go far beyond protecting them from drops. If you want to avoid the expense of having to repair or replace your phone, here are the most practical reasons to get a phone case.

1. Smartphone repairs are costly

While it may not seem like a big deal to crack your screen or camera lens, it will cost you a bit of money to get your phone repaired. It doesn’t make sense to keep your phone unprotected just because most damage can be repaired. Consider the financial aspect because even if you have insurance, you’ll need to pay the deductible first. On top of that, you might damage your phone multiple times, creating several expenses that can easily add up to the cost of a new phone.

2. A broken phone can be an inconvenience

If your phone breaks and you need to send it in for repairs, you’ll need to go without it for quite some time. This may not be a big deal if you don’t have to use it for work or if you don’t need to stay in contact with a lot of people. However, if you’re involved in a group, like a dog rescue, you’ll be out of touch for a bit.

3. Some damage is permanent

Depending on the situation, if you damage your phone, it might be permanent in the sense that it will either be unrepairable, or will cost more to repair than your device is worth.

4. You’ll preserve your phone’s resale value

Phones that are kept in cases maintain their aesthetics and functionality more than phones that are kept bare. Although scratches and scuffs don’t typically impact the performance of a phone, it does lower the resale value by around 20-30%. Still, people are willing to buy phones with scratches for a slight discount. However, cracked screens and scratched camera lenses will drop the resale value of your phone significantly, and it may not sell at all.

5. Phone cases enhance your grip

You probably know what it’s like to grab your phone to take a picture and feel it slipping out of your grip. Phones are built to be sleek and smooth, and don’t have any texture. Cases, on the other hand, are made with materials that are naturally more grippy, like plastic and silicone, but the best cases have additional textures specifically designed to enhance your grip. Traditional phone grip add-ons are just not the same.

6. High-quality cases protect your ports

General cases will only protect the sides, screen, and camera lens. High-quality cases will also protect your ports by offering plugs that fit right over each hole. These covers are easy to move out of the way to plug in chargers and headphones, but your ports will remain protected from dust and lint when not in use.

7. Cases are ergonomic

One of the best reasons to use a phone case is because they’re ergonomic. Many cases are designed to enhance comfort and make the phone balance better for one-handed use. Being able to comfortably hold your phone also helps to improve your photos and videos, and good ergonomic case design will make it easy to locate your side buttons without looking.

8. Cases are great for self-expression

If you love self-expression, getting a phone case is a creative adventure. Not only can you find a case with a design featuring just about any character or genre you can imagine, but you can also design your own. If you’re an artist, it’s fun to create items with your own art, and phone cases are no exception.

9. A case will keep your phone functional for emergencies

You can’t predict when an emergency will arise, and that’s one of the most important reasons to keep a case on your phone. Sure, if you break your phone you can have it repaired and do without for a week. However, if your phone breaks and you need it for an emergency, you’ll be out of luck.

A phone case is a smart investment

While it’s tempting to use your phone without a case, investing in a durable, well-designed case is a wise investment that will save you money and ensure your phone is usable when you need it most.

Hungary’s new Digital Citizenship Programme popular

I trust that the Digital Citizenship Programme application will gain broad support, many people will use it because they will see that it is easier to handle matters with it and identify themselves, Antal Rogán, the head of the Prime Minister’s Cabinet Office, said at a conference on Thursday.

Rogán said the programme, which aims to expand paperless state administration, started operating in September and currently 350,000-360,000 users downloaded the application for it.

The goal is for that number to be between 3m and 5m by the middle or the end of 2026, he added.

Comparing eSIM and Physical SIM: What You Need to Know

Having access to the internet when travelling is of crucial importance, whether it’s for having directions at hand, being able to call the local primary care service when needed, or checking the most important sightseeing points in the city you’re in, a stable internet connection is non-negotiable. However, you are met with two options when it comes to SIM cards you can use abroad. In addition to physical SIM cards, eSIM has recently become increasingly popular. In this article, we will compare the most important aspects of eSIMs and physical SIM cards in hopes that you will have an easier time choosing what works best for you.

eSIM vs physical SIM: form factor

sim card esim
Illustration: depositphotos.com

Let’s first look at the forms of these two different types of SIMs. The physical SIM is a small, removable chip that needs to be inserted into your phone or other device. It’s available in different sizes (nano, micro, standard). The eSIM (which is available for tourism and business travels for multiple countries at Yesim.app) is embedded directly into your device’s hardware (it has no removable part). You activate it digitally via a QR code or app, eliminating the need for a physical card.

Convenience

Another important factor is convenience, and this battle has a clear winner. A physical SIM card requires manual insertion or removal. If you’re switching carriers or phones, you need to physically swap SIM cards. However, an eSIM (available in Hungarian on Yesim.app) is more convenient for switching between carriers, numbers, or plans, as everything is done digitally. This is particularly helpful when travelling or switching between personal and business numbers.

Device compatibility

Almost every phone supports physical SIMs, though new devices are increasingly supporting eSIM technology. However, not all devices support eSIM, but many modern smartphones (like the iPhone, Pixel, and Samsung Galaxy) have started integrating eSIM functionality. Make sure your phone is compatible before relying on this option!

Carrier compatibility

As another bonus point for physical SIM cards, they are widely supported by virtually all carriers around the world. On the contrary, not every carrier offers eSIM support yet, though the number is increasing. It’s important to check if your carrier provides eSIM activation.

Security

One of the most important factors is security. A physical SIM can be easily removed or swapped, making it vulnerable to theft or tampering. An eSIM, however, is more secure because it’s embedded in the phone. It cannot be physically removed, which can help prevent unauthorised SIM swaps (a method used in some identity theft cases). However, this also makes it harder to switch devices quickly in case of theft.

Environmental impact

In today’s rapidly changing climate, taking into account the environmental impact of our actions and choices is crucial. In this case, a physical SIM card generates plastic waste since the cards are made of plastic and often come in larger, wasteful packaging. eSIMs are environmentally friendlier as they reduce the need for physical materials and shipping.

Conclusion

At the end of the day, it will be all up to you which alternative you choose. In conclusion, an eSIM offers greater convenience, flexibility, and security, making it the better option for frequent travellers or those who switch between multiple plans often. Meanwhile, physical SIM cards are still more universally supported, making them more reliable in places where eSIM technology hasn’t been fully adopted.

Double standards again? iPhone 16 will be different in Hungary

The newest iPhone 16 will be significantly different in Hungary and Europe than in the United States. The reason is the divergent legal environment.

According to Tom’s Guide, the iPhone 16 series will bring us a lot of innovations, and we only have to wait a few more days for Apple to reveal the new device. However, this will be the first time that the producer will make two different variants of the phone complying with differing rules in North America and the European Union.

Apple is to announce four different models on 9 September: the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. However, thanks to a new law passed in the European Union, the iPhone 16 will be different in Hungary than in e.g. North America.

“The EU’s Digital Market Act (DMA) is a pro-competition law that stipulates large tech companies (so-called “gatekeepers”) can’t lock their customers into particular pieces of hardware or software to foster competition”, Tom’s Guide wrote. Partly, that is why Apple moved away from Lightning and implemented USB-C on the iPhone 15 series. As a result, even the appearance of the phones in North America and Europe will be different.

AI features will be missing from the new iPhone in Hungary

“For example, in Europe, the iPhone 16 will arrive with a Default Apps Section where users can uninstall any stock browser, mail app or payment platform and install a different one of their choosing. European users will also be able to install third-party app stores like AltStore that’ll easily let them reintroduce Fortnite to their iPhone”, the media outlet highlighted.

Furthermore, Apple will not make Apple Intelligence features available in the European Union due to the DMA. “Due to the regulatory uncertainties brought about by the Digital Markets Act, we do not believe that we will be able to roll out three of these [new] features — iPhone Mirroring, SharePlay Screen Sharing enhancements and Apple Intelligence — to our EU users this Year”, the company wrote in a June statement.

Apple Intelligence is the company’s suite of AI-enabled tools and one of the biggest reasons for this year’s update. Thanks to this, the new phone will have an A18 or A18 Pro chipset and at least 8GB RAM.

Will smartphones be banned in Hungarian schools?

Most Hungarians want smartphones banned from schools and regard phone addiction as a serious problem, according to a recent survey.

A government decree introduced in August restricts the use of mobile phones in schools and comes on the heels of similar strict limits placed on smartphone use in schools in the UK, France, the Netherlands, Australia, Greece, Finland and Sweden.

The survey commissioned by the St István Institute published on Wednesday examined the views of Hungarian adults concerning how they see problems caused by smartphone use by young people as well as their opinion of the new government decree.

According to the survey carried out by the Nézőpont Institute, 94 percent saw smartphone use by young people as problematic, while 85 percent backed the government’s restrictions.

soical media smartphones mobile

More than 60 percent of Hungarian adults see children using smartphones mostly for entertainment while this rises to 73 percent in households raising children.

Children can legally join social media platforms from the age of 13 under current laws, and in general most respondents saw this as too lenient. In Budapest, however, 47 percent considered the regulation appropriate, with 44 percent seeing it as too light.

The survey was carried out with a representative sample of 1,000 adults.

Identification in Hungary undergoes major changes from September

Identification in Hungary changes considerably from September

Identification processes in Hungary will undergo significant changes from September with the introduction of the Digital Citizenship Programme. Instead of searching for your ID card or driving licence when stopped by the police, you will now only need to present your smartphone.

The Digital Citizenship Programme enables citizens to store all their essential documents – including ID cards, driving licences, and passports – within a single mobile app.

According to vezess.hu, the new system allows individuals to leave their physical identification documents at home and carry only their phones. The app is already available for download, but to participate in the programme, users must first complete a one-time registration at a government office. However, from 1 September, this step can be done online.

Changes to police identification procedures

As a result of this programme, the police identification process will also be updated. Officers will verify your identity using a Novamobil device and a QR code generated by the Digital Citizenship app. The verification process will be automated through pre-selected databases, meaning you will no longer need to carry your driving licence, for example, when travelling by car.

In addition to simplifying identification, the app offers several other conveniences. These include the ability to request a criminal record certificate with a single click, create legally recognised documents with digital signatures accepted across all EU member states, and schedule appointments at government offices.

All you need is a smartphone with a compatible operating system.

Digital Citizenship Programme: Use your smartphone as ID in Hungary from September!

From September, carrying physical identification documents will no longer be necessary, as Hungary launches its Digital Citizenship Programme. This initiative allows citizens to store all their essential documents in a single mobile app, which also offers various convenient features designed to simplify everyday tasks.

Digital Citizenship Programme from September

In a video announcement on Facebook, Csaba Dömötör, Parliamentary Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Cabinet Office, explained that from this fall, individuals will be able to identify themselves to police officers using their mobile phones, eliminating the need to carry an ID card. The app will securely store personal data, allowing users to download and share this information for official use, streamlining administrative processes.

Digital signatures, scheduling appointments

The app will also support digital signatures, creating legally recognised documents accepted across all EU member states. Dömötör highlighted another benefit: starting this fall, users will be able to request a criminal record certificate with just one click, marking the introduction of Hungary’s first digital document type.

Additionally, the app will facilitate scheduling appointments at government offices for popular service types directly from a mobile phone. To participate in the program, citizens must complete a one-time registration at a government office, bringing a photo ID and a smartphone with the Digital Citizenship app already installed.

“It’s just a matter of minutes… If you want to handle more of your affairs without queuing, register now!” encouraged Dömötör.

How to Unlock iPhone without Passcode?

Sponsored content

Unlocking an iPhone without a passcode can be a lifesaver when you find yourself locked out of your device. Whether you’ve forgotten your passcode or simply want to access your phone quickly, there are various methods available to help you regain access to your precious device. In this blog post, we will explore the importance of having a passcode on your iPhone, common reasons why people forget their passcodes, and effective ways to unlock an iPhone without a passcode. So, let’s dive in and discover how you can effortlessly regain access to your iPhone!

The importance of having a passcode on your iPhone

Having a passcode on your iPhone is crucial for safeguarding your personal data and privacy. It acts as the first line of defense against unauthorized access, ensuring that only you can unlock and use your device. With identity theft and cyber-attacks on the rise, setting a strong passcode adds an extra layer of security to prevent sensitive information from falling into the wrong hands.

Moreover, a passcode protects your iPhone in case it gets lost or stolen. By requiring a passcode to unlock the device, you reduce the risk of someone accessing your emails, messages, photos, or financial apps without permission. This not only safeguards your privacy but also helps prevent potential misuse of your personal information.

In addition to security benefits, having a passcode enables features like Touch ID and Face ID for convenient and quick access to your device. These biometric authentication methods work hand in hand with your passcode to provide seamless unlocking while maintaining high levels of security.

Common reasons why people forget their passcode

It’s not uncommon for people to forget their iPhone passcodes, and there are several reasons why this happens. One common reason is simply being overwhelmed with multiple passwords in daily life – from emails to social media accounts, the list goes on! Another reason could be due to infrequent use of the device, leading to memory lapses when it comes to entering the passcode.

Sometimes changing a passcode frequently can also result in forgetting the latest one. Furthermore, distractions while setting a new passcode or typing it incorrectly multiple times can lead to confusion and forgetfulness. In some cases, software glitches or updates may cause passcodes to reset unexpectedly.

Regardless of the cause, it’s essential to have methods in place for unlocking your iPhone without the passcode handy. By understanding these common reasons for forgetting your passcode, you can take proactive steps towards preventing future mishaps.

Methods for unlocking an iPhone without a passcode:

If you find yourself locked out of your iPhone due to a forgotten passcode, don’t panic. There are several methods you can try to regain access to your device without the need for a passcode.

One way is by utilizing Touch ID or Face ID if your iPhone supports these features. Simply use your fingerprint or facial recognition to unlock the device and bypass the passcode requirement.

Another option is to recover your passcode through iCloud. By using the “Find My” app on another Apple device or through iCloud.com, you can remotely reset your iPhone’s passcode and regain access to it.

For more advanced solutions, consider restoring your iPhone using TunesKit. TunesKit iPhone Unlocker offers an efficient way to unlock iPhones without a passcode, whether it’s a 4-digit/6-digit code, Touch ID, or Face ID lock.

By exploring these methods, you can potentially regain access to your locked iPhone without the hassle of remembering a forgotten passcode.

  1. Using Touch ID or Face ID

Unlocking your iPhone using Touch ID or Face ID is a convenient and secure way to access your device without the need for typing in a passcode. With just a simple touch of your finger or a glance at your phone, you can quickly unlock it and jump right into using it.

Setting up Touch ID or Face ID on your iPhone is easy and only takes a few minutes. Once configured, you can use these features to unlock your device effortlessly. Whether you prefer the fingerprint recognition of Touch ID or the facial recognition of Face ID, both options provide added convenience to accessing your phone.

By utilizing biometric authentication methods like Touch ID or Face ID, you can ensure that only you have access to your device’s data. This adds an extra layer of security beyond just having a passcode, keeping your personal information safe and protected.

Next time you reach for your iPhone, consider using Touch ID or Face ID as an alternative way to unlock it quickly and securely!

  1. Recovering the passcode through iCloud

Losing or forgetting your iPhone passcode can be a frustrating experience. Luckily, one way to recover your passcode is through iCloud. By using the “Find My” app on another device linked to the same iCloud account, you can remotely erase your device and set up a new passcode.

To begin this process, log in to iCloud.com and select the “Find iPhone” option. Locate your device on the map and choose “Erase iPhone.” This will remove all data from your phone, including the passcode. Once erased, you can restore your data from a backup if you have one available.

It’s important to note that recovering your passcode through iCloud will result in losing all data on your device unless it has been recently backed up. So, make sure to back up regularly to avoid any potential loss of important information.

  1. Restoring the iPhone through TunesKit

If you find yourself locked out of your iPhone and unable to remember the passcode, don’t worry, there is a solution. TunesKit iPhone Unlocker is a powerful tool that can help you restore access to your device quickly and efficiently. One significant risk is the possibility of data loss during the unlocking process. There’s always a chance that something could go wrong, leading to your valuable information being compromised or erased.

Another precaution to keep in mind is the legality of unlocking methods. Make sure you are following all laws and regulations when attempting to bypass security measures on your device. Engaging in unauthorized unlocking activities could have legal consequences.

It’s also crucial to be cautious about third-party software claiming to unlock iPhones without a passcode. Some programs may not be legitimate or secure, putting your device at risk of malware or other harmful effects. Always research and choose reputable tools like TunesKit iPhone Unlocker for safe and reliable solutions.

Additionally, consider the warranty implications of unlocking your iPhone through unofficial methods. Altering the software or hardware components of your device could void any existing warranties provided by Apple. Hungarian Wizz Air starts new data roaming service helping all passengers

Wizz Air Hungarian airline

Hungary’s low-cost airline, Wizz Air, initiated a brand-new season ticket this month. Now, they announced the introduction of another innovative scheme, the so-called eSIM service. The new option will help you get a high-quality and reliable mobile data service in 150 countries. Furthermore, you may use it for 12 months, and it is capable of 5G. However, it can be adapted to only the newer smartphone models.

“Say No to fiddly plastic cards and high roaming charges”, the Hungarian low-cost airline, says about its brand-new service, the eSim. “Just scan our QR code and install your data roaming package as an eSIM or “embedded SIM” in a matter of minutes”, the airline says.

However, not all mobile phones are supported. Among the iPhones, only XS and up (2018), while in the case of the Android models, only the newer ones. The service helps the user access low-cost, 5G enabled – where available – mobile data in over 150 countries worldwide, without having to switch over physical SIMs. HERE is the list of eSIM-capable phones.

How to buy this new Wizz Air service?

“All you need to do is select your place of destination, and your preferred eSIM data roaming package at checkout, and upon completion, you will receive a QR code to scan. You can then start consuming data in seconds by following the simple eSIM activation instructions. Upon payment checkout, you need to enter your e-mail address and you will receive an email from us for your QR codes and a link to create your account where you will manage your eSIM’s.

Your eSIM bundle duration starts when you first use data enabling you to buy your eSIM up to 12 months before you travel. When you install your eSIM, please ensure data roaming is enabled for your eSIM and that Mobile data is configured in your phone settings to use the eSIM you have purchased.

Re-use and save even more!

Your eSIM can be topped up and reused up to 12 months after your last trip. With over 150 countries supported worldwide, we have you covered wherever you go. You can also purchase data plans for your loved ones so you can manage all the eSIMs in one account and also share the QR codes for those people whom you have purchased eSIM’s for.

You will receive an SMS notification once you have started to use your package and also when you have reached 80% and 100% of your allocated data so you can top up after entering into your account.”

Vodafone customers in Hungary: prepare for an important change – video

Vodafone Hungary service provider

Vodafone customers in Hungary should prepare for an important change regarding their mobile data. According to Vodafone Hungary, around two thirds of customers using tariff plans that do not include unlimited internet do not fully use up their mobile internet allowance.

Changes in the Go tarrif packages

In response to this market situation, the telecoms company is renewing its Go tariff packages. They will allow customers to roll over unused data to the next month, Vodafone announced in Budapest on Wednesday.

The company has informed Portfolio that two thirds of its customers who do not have unlimited data do not consume the data included in their tariff plans. This phenomenon can be solved by the operator’s Go tariff packages with rollable data allowance.

Customers using these tariff packages can roll over the unused data allowance until the end of the month to the next month. In a unique innovation on the Hungarian market, the unused data purchased by customers will not be lost, but can be used the following month.

As Portfolio learned, “rolling” will start automatically if at least 1 megabyte of the data included in the tariff has been used. So the remaining data will automatically be carried over to the next billing period without any action on the part of the subscriber. The operator pointed out that rolling only works for cards that are actively used.

Unlimited RED tariff plans are also being renewed: customers can share 5GB or 10GB of data per month with another family member, depending on the tariff plan, free of charge, thus adding to the data allowance of their partner or child.

Vodafone Hungary celebrated the introduction of so-called rollable data with a special event on 5 April. The service provider’s employees set a world record on roller skates in the courtyard of the Budapest ONE office building, where the company is based.

Will mobile phones become more expensive in Hungary due to the weak forint?

Xiaomi mobile phone

So far, the Hungarian mobile market has performed very well in 2022. There is no tendency among customers to buy cheaper phones yet, but could it happen in the near future?

Tibor Wagner, the country manager of Xiaomi in Hungary gave an interview to Pénzcentrum, in which he analysed the way the domestic prices of products may have changed following the dramatic weakening of the forint.

“The prices will certainly not decrease”

Due to the weak forint exchange rate, it is highly unlikely that the prices of mobile phones will decrease. According to Tibor Wagner, they work with recommended consumer prices and their distributors are exposed to exchange rate risk. The distributors try to correct the deterioration of the exchange rate to the appropriate extent. As long as possible, the company is trying to balance the deterioration of the exchange rate using this method, but there is a limit. However, the Hungarian manager of Xiaomi emphasised that it was always the last step that the customers experienced the price increase directly.

What price range of mobile phones are Hungarian customers looking for?

In September 2019, Xiaomi was officially launched in Hungary. Since then, the company has become successful in the Hungarian smartphone market. In the year of launch, Xiaomi had a 3 percent share of the Hungarian smartphone market, which became 20 percent by the end of 2020, and then in the middle of 2021, it was close to 30 percent. According to Tibor Wagner, Xiaomi is not the strongest in the cheapest category, but rather in the middle and upper-middle segments. These are typically the latest products of the Redmi Note series, currently the Note 11 and Note 11 Pro.

Are customers looking for cheaper phones due to the weak forint?

Although inflation had been rising in Hungary, people did not settle for cheaper mobile phones, said the Hungarian manager of Xiaomi. “Compared to last year, we even sell a little more of the expensive, high-end products”, he added. “Hungary is a particularly favourable European market from the company’s point of view because the majority of customers do not go for the cheapest category but the segment in which Xiaomi is very strong.” – says Tibor Wagner.

Is 5G radiation really dangerous? Comprehensive investigation by the Hungarian authorities

mobile 5g

The electromagnetic radiation emitted by 5G technology does not exceed the safety limits, according to tests carried out by Hungarian media authority NMHH and health authority NNK.

NNK and NMHH run regular radiation tests on 5G technology, the media authority said in a statement on Tuesday. The testing scheme was also presented at a conference held by the International Radiation Protection Association (IRPA), they said.

The supposed health impacts of 5G technology remains an important topic because there is still a degree of public concern over 5G radiation, the statement said.

5G data traffic in Hungary is still small compared with the older mobile network generations, the NMHH said.

The authority added, however, that its radiation monitoring service had received reports of people claiming to perceive 5G radiation even in places where 5G is not yet available.

The NMHH said its experts attach prime importance to the sense of safety of those who live near 5G towers, adding it was giving the public the option of requesting electromagnetic radiation measurements free of charge.

Because 5G is not yet widely available across the country, the ongoing measurements are being done in preparation for a mass radiation measurement programme, the statement said.

“Smart hotel” opens in Budapest in September – PHOTOS

up hotel budapest

Up Hotel Budapest will open its doors on September 1st in the city centre, close to Oktogon Square.

Hungarian tourism is on the road to recovery. Dozens of summer programmes all over the country, as well as the opening of some new hotels, also suggest the same.

Domestic tourism takes off in Hungary

At the end of July, DNH attended the opening ceremony of the Crowne Plaza Budapest Hotel, next to Nyugati Railway Station. In just a week, another beautiful and stylish hotel will start its journey in the Hungarian capital, at an equally frequented and popular location.

Up Hotel Budapest’s motto, “Being smart is always a good idea”, is reflected in every detail. The 157-room brand-new hotel is ready to welcome everyone with its genuine yet smart hospitality.

“Working on a technology-enhanced hotel concept, we aimed to create contemporary spaces completed with the hottest electronic devices and services shaped by your ever-changing needs and interests,”

highlights the management on their website.
Their modern electronic solutions and smart devices will make procedures much faster and easier.

The hotel’s own application makes check-in and check-out possible, while your smartphone will also act as your room key.

The appliances in every hotel room, like heating or AC, are controlled from a tablet. The device also enables guests to contact the Front Desk or make local phone calls.

The building, which gives a home to the hotel, has historical importance in the Hungarian industry. It belonged to industrialist Károly Lajos Posner and functioned as a printing house. Thus, conserving the original building, especially the ferroconcrete structure built in the 19th century as a top technological development, was an important aspect.

A smaller gym, a sauna island, and a sun-bathing terrace are included in the room prices.

The restaurant and the bar of the hotel are operated by BRKLYN, a well-known player in Budapest gastronomy.

You can find two conference rooms on the ground floor. As turizmus.com writes, further plans include a bar on the top of the hotel which could become one of the biggest rooftop bars of the capital.

South Korea’s LG to withdraw from the smartphone market

smartphone LG

South Korea’s LG Electronics Inc will wind down its loss-making mobile division after failing to find a buyer, a move that is set to make it the first major smartphone brand to completely withdraw from the market.

Its decision to pull out will leave its 10% share in North America, where it is the No. 3 brand, to be gobbled up by Samsung Electronics and Apple Inc with its domestic rival expected to have the edge.

“In the United States, LG has targeted mid-priced – if not ultra-low – models and that means Samsung, which has more mid-priced product lines than Apple, will be better able to attract LG users,”

said Ko Eui-young, an analyst at Hi Investment & Securities.

LG’s smartphone division has logged nearly six years of losses totalling some $4.5 billion. Dropping out of the fiercely competitive sector would allow LG to focus on growth areas such as electric vehicle components, connected devices and smart homes, it said in a statement.

In better times, LG was early to market with a number of cell phone innovations including ultra-wide angle cameras and at its peak in 2013, it was the world’s third-largest smartphone manufacturer behind Samsung and Apple.

But later, its flagship models suffered from both software and hardware mishaps which combined with slower software updates saw the brand steadily slip in favour. Analysts have also criticised the company for lack of expertise in marketing compared to Chinese rivals.

While other well-known mobile brands such as Nokia, HTC and Blackberry have also fallen from lofty heights, they have yet to disappear completely.

LG’s current global share is only about 2%. It shipped 23 million phones last year which compares with 256 million for Samsung, according to research provider Counterpoint.

In addition to North America, it does have a sizeable presence in Latin America, where it ranks as the No. 5 brand.

While rival Chinese brands such as Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi do not have much of a presence in the United States, in part due to frosty bilateral relations, their and Samsung’s low to mid-range product offerings are set to benefit from LG’s absence in Latin America, analysts said.

LG’s smartphone division, the smallest of its five divisions accounting for about 7% of revenue, is expected to be wound down by July 31.

In South Korea, the division’s employees will be moved to other LG Electronics businesses and affiliates, while elsewhere decisions on employment will be made at the local level.

Analysts said they were told in a conference call that LG plans to retain its 4G and 5G core technology patents as well as core R&D personnel, and will continue to develop communication technologies for 6G. It has yet to decide whether to license out such intellectual property in the future, they added.

LG will provide service support and software updates for customers of existing mobile products for a period of time which will vary by region, it added.

Talks to sell part of the business to Vietnam’s Vingroup fell through due to differences about terms, sources with knowledge of the matter have said.

LG Elec shares have risen about 7% since a January announcement that it was considering all options for the business.

New Android Auto has received official support in Hungary

Android Auto Autó Kocsi Műszerfal Dashboard Audi

Google has recently announced that Android Auto will receive official support in a number of European, African, and Asian countries, and it is particularly good news for Hungary, as it is also going to get support.

According to Hvg, Android Auto, only supported in 36 countries so far, will soon cover twice that many, 72 countries. The service will be continuously rolled out in the newly supported countries in the coming weeks, so Hungary might need to wait a little bit before the service is active.

Previously, anyone who wanted to use Android Auto in Hungary needed to use a trick and manually tinker with the app’s folders, but this will not be necessary in the future.

24 says that with Android Auto, mobile apps can be displayed on the car’s own infotainment system, so even Waze, Spotify, and Google Calendar become easy to use. There will be no need to look at your small device’s display to use such apps anymore. You will also be able to contact Google Now at any time.

In order to use Android Auto, a smartphone running Android 10 must simply be connected to the car’s infotainment unit with a USB cable. For smartphones running older Android operating systems, the Android Auto app must be downloaded separately. But the latest, Android 11 devices will be able to connect to the car wirelessly.

Google and Apple have been offering motorists a solution that blurs the line between built-in navigation and smartphones since the mid-2010s. The former’s solution is Android Auto and the latter’s is CarPlay, but none of them had received any official support in Hungary before.

The basic idea is very simple: the smartphone runs Waze or Google Maps and displays its image, among other functions, not on its own, but on the car’s central display.

If the device is also allowed to be connected to the car’s audio system, then the smartphone can access the car’s GPS and mobile network antennas. After that, the navigation software is easy to operate via simple voice commands or even buttons on the steering wheel or the centre console. In most cases, the smart device needs to be connected to the car with a USB cable. Slowly but surely, the wireless method is gaining some ground on both platforms with wireless recharging capabilities as well.
