The Tragedy of Man new Polish translation at Krakow Book Fair
Krakow (MTI) – A new Polish translation of Imre Madach’s 19th century classic play The Tragedy of Man was presented on Saturday at the Krakow Book Fair where Hungary is an honorary guest this year.
The new translation timed to coincide with the 150th death anniversary of its author was prepared by renowned Polish poet and translator Bohdan Zadura.
He told MTI that Madach’s classic work is increasingly timely, especially its 12th scene set in a Phalanstery. He added that it had a universal and very current message, which is enhanced by illustrations in the new book, taken from Marcell Jankovics’ animation feature based on the play.
The volume has been published by Biuro Literackie, with support from the National Cultural Fund of Hungary and the Hungarian Academy of Arts.
