Transparency Urges Political Parties To Join Fight Against Graft
Budapest, May 14 (MTI) – Transparency International Hungary has drafted a statement aimed at increasing transparency and fighting corruption, encouraging political parties running in the European parliamentary election to sign it.
Signatories to the statement will agree to set an example in ethical lobbying, responsible use of public funds and protecting whistleblowers who report graft, TI Hungary said in a statement on Wednesday.
The parties joining the initiative will ensure that “MEPs work together with civil society and others so that the institutions of the European Union, their operations and decisions, meet the highest level of expectations and set a global example in terms of transparency, accountability, and integrity,” the statement said.
The organisation added that it would send the draft to MEP candidates and nominating parties in other EU countries, too.
TI will also start negotiations with parties of the European Parliament concerning practical implementation of the commitments outlined in the proposed statement.
