Ukraine ratifies agreement on nuclear material transportation between Russia and Hungary via Ukraine
The Itar-Tass News Agency said, Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada (parliament) has ratified an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the sphere of nuclear material transportation between Russia and Hungary via the territory of Ukraine. The ratification was backed by 255 deputies with the minimum of 226 votes.
The trilateral agreement was signed in Kiev in October 2012. “The document regulates matters of security and division of responsibilities in the process of international transportation of nuclear materials and supports creation of the legal basis to guarantee the environmental safety,” the parliament’s press service said.
The Itar-Tass News Agency according, Russia supplies nuclear fuel to Hungarian Paks NPP via Ukraine. The NPP was build in the 1980s and consists of four power units of the VVER-440 type.
