Szijjarto summons ambassador over “offensive” remarks by Croatian PM

Budapest (MTI) – Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto summoned Croatia’s ambassador on Friday, over recent remarks by Croatian Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic, which Szijjarto referred to as “offensive to Hungary and the Hungarian people,” the foreign ministry said.

It referred to a statement by Milanovic, published on index.hr, in which he said that Hungary was “Europe’s appendix”, whose premier “used to be an active communist, then a liberal – a bit of each”.

Szijjarto rejected Milanovic’s tone, and said his statement was “uncultured, uncivilised, and not worthy of Europe”. “Anyone that makes such statement are not worthy of leading any European country,” he insisted.
