House Speaker meets Singaporean counterpart
Budapest, June 11 (MTI) – Hungary’s House Speaker Laszlo Kover met Halimah Yacob, his Singaporean counterpart, for talks in Budapest on Thursday.
Parties at the talks agreed that bilateral ties were extremely good, but cooperation between Hungary and Singapore offers further opportunities.
Kover told reporters after the meeting that among Hungary’s trading partners Singapore is in 30th place, and among investors in 22nd place. In light of the distance between the two countries, it indicates that their mutual importance as partners could gradually increase, he added.
Hungary is committed to helping its small and medium-size enterprises find partners across the world, Kover said and noted Eximbank’s 600 million dollar credit line designed to promote Hungarian companies in Singapore.
Hungary could consider Singapore as a country from where ties to other Asian regions could be built, Yacob said. She also expressed her gratitude to Kover for his personal efforts in setting up a Singapore-Hungary chapter in the Hungarian parliament. That body, he said, could contribute to significant developments in bilateral ties.
