Budapest is the 6th on MasterCard’s top list
Turizmusonline.hu reported that, according to the latest research of MasterCard Global Destination Cities, Budapest occupied the sixth place on a European list which represents the average annual increase in the numbers of tourists between 2009 and 2016 arriving and staying at least for one night.
According to the survey, the world’s most visited city is Bangkok in Thailand, while Osaka in Japan was declared to develop the most dynamically, Turizmusonline.hu told.
The first twenty place of the global toplist are occupied by Bangkok, London, Paris, Dubai, New York, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Istanbul, Tokyo, Seoul, Hongkong, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Milano, Taipei, Rome, Osaka, Vienna, Songhai and Prague. Approximately 21.47 millions of tourists visited Bangkok in 2016, 19.88 millions of tourists visited London, and 18.03 millions visited Paris. Osaka reached the largest increase with 7.02 millions tourists visiting in 2016, but Tokyo can be also proud with its 11.7 millions of tourists last year. Budapest stands at the 40th place with 3.36 millions of tourists visiting the Hungarian capital.

In terms of the regions of the Middle East and Africa, Dubai stands at the first place of the international list. London leads in Europe, Lima in Latin America, and New York in North America. Regarding the amount of money spent by foreign tourists, Dubai is at the forefront, while London, New York, Bangkok and Paris got into the top 5.
The European top 10 list is lead by London with 19.88 millions of tourists in 2016. It is followed by Paris with 18.03 millions of tourists, Istanbul with 11.95, Barcelona with 8.2, Amsterdam with 8, Milano with 7.65, Rome with 7.1, Vienna with 6.69, Prague with 5.81 and Madrid with 5.26 millions of tourists. Vienna developed the most dynamically among these tourist destinations.
From the annual average growth in the numbers of foreign tourists between 2009 and 2016 it turns out that Budapest stands at the 6th place in the top 10 list with a growth of 7.2% in the number of tourists arriving. The top 10 list includes Hamburg, Berlin, Istanbul, Copenhagen, Lisbon, Budapest, Düsseldorf, Bucharest, Sofia and Barcelona.
The survey examined by Turizmusonline.hu also reveals that 9% of the visitors come to Budapest for business trips, 91% come for holiday. 12.9% of tourists visiting Budapest spend their money on eating and drinking, 22.2% on shopping, 52% on commuting in Budapest, 13.2% on services and 10.8% spend their money on anything else.
Turizmusonline.hu also added that the survey of Euromonitor International showed the same tendency, yet, they do their research based on different viewpoints.
