No plan for Macron visit to Hungary
No plans have been made for French President Emmanuel Macron to visit Hungary but an official meeting between the V4 group and France could take place before the year goes out, at a yet unspecified date, the prime minister’s press chief told news website Origo on Thursday.
Origo asked Bertalan Havasi after Macron had set out on a three-day tour to central Europe on Wednesday.
According to some remarks in the opposition press, Macron intentionally decided not to come to Hungary. The press chief, however, told the online paper that such a visit had never been planned.
“There has not been a plan or agreement about Emmanuel Macron visiting Hungary in August this year. The V4 prime ministers, including Viktor Orbán, held talks with the French president in June, before the EU summit, and the possibility of another France-V4 official meeting this year was raised on that occasion,” Havasi said.
A date suitable for all the sides involved is currently being sought, he added.
On Wednesday Macron held talks with the prime ministers of the Slavkov Triangle, namely Austria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, in Salzburg. On Thursday he is scheduled to visit Romania and Bulgaria.
As we wrote, Minister of State for Sports Tünde Szabó had talks with French Sports Minister Laura Flessel at the Duna Arena. It adds to the significance of the meeting that no French leader of the rank of minister had been to Hungary since 2010.
