Spritzer in Danger
Would you drink bottled spritzer? – Marton Elek, owner of Borhalo (Wine Net) asks in his Facebook site after the abolition of the HUF 98.7 per liter excise duty on Spritzer. This, in turn, can cause that some piquettes will be bottled as spritzer, zipp.hu says.
History
The parliament reduced excise duty to 0 for those products which contain grape wine and non-flavored carbonated water. Previously, 98.70 forints per liter excise tax was in effect for this product group. The zero rate relates such beverages which alcohol content is up to 8.5% and share of grape wine is over 50%.
This definition is totally suits spritzer, therefore, according to wine experts, the abolition of the tax now opens up the market for bottled spritzers. So far, it was not worth of bottling spritzer because the duty of these products has created a competitive disadvantage. For example, spritzers available in restaurants had a clear advantage and because of their freshness, they will be also popular after that, but their price advantage against bottled spritzers can disappear – agrarszektor.hu says.
Wien lovers know that spritzer can only be made of good-quality wine. Let it be red, white or rosé. Spritzer has culturally important message too, in Hungary, and it only spread in this country. Here, for example, zipp.hu presents some spritzers, the roughest is the one invented by the famous Hungarian writer, Gyula Krudy.
The portal thinks spritzer should have not been manufactured or bottled.
The debate started
According to zipp.hu, the measure sparked vigorous debate on the World Wide Web. Marton Elek, owner of Wine Net wrote on his Facebook with an ad that he did not think spritzer would be in danger. He thought it was a PR-action because spritzer-makers are afraid of the new regulation. Elek thinks there are some fundamental problems with that, for example, spritzer is only good by drinking fresh and it is unlikely to be changed.
People will not drink bad wine with soda. Bad wine will go out of fashion even in the party district, Elek says.
He also thinks that people sought good wine and quality.
Marton Elek added that people should have not been afraid of those who could circumvent the rules. Bottled spritzer could be good for railway stations as an emergency solution and he did not want more rules around us, zipp.hu says.
He is also considering of getting-in this business, but he does not want to discredit spritzer with an unacceptable wine. The owner of Borhalo also would like to avoid identifying cheap wine with piquette.
