US company Itron’s centre of excellence opened in Hungary

The Hungarian economy should enter a new dimension and become an even more attractive site for research and development, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said at the inauguration event of US company Itron’s centre of excellence in Budapest on Wednesday.

Itron, which specialises in energy and water management, received a 412 million forint (EUR 1.3m) government grant to complement its own 2 billion forint investment, Szijjártó said.

The company’s deputy CEO for software management and services said that the software development centre in Budapest would “shape the future of energy industry”.

Itron will create 100 workplaces for highly qualified workers.

Itron employs nearly 8,000 people in over 100 countries worldwide. It is a market leader in software services and smart city solutions.

As we wrote before, US company General Electric (GE) aims to double the volume of the products and services bought from Central-Eastern European (CEE) SMEs, including Hungarian enterprises. The company has approximately 6.000 suppliers in the region and its procurement value exceeds 1,7 billion USD which can reach 3,4 billion USD by the end of the decade.
