Budapest named as most affordable city for students
A British company compared more than 100 cities around the world, and while Budapest came in as 49th on an overall scale, it proved to be the most affordable city in terms of student life, as reported by parameter.sk.
The British company Quacquarelli Symonds compiled its rankings taking into consideration numerous factors, such as affordability, employer activity, or desirability, based on the responses of 50 thousand students. While the first place on the overall score was taken by London, followed by Tokyo and Melbourne,
Budapest was listed as the most affordable city.
As Topuniversities reports, the indicators used for determining affordability are tuition feeds, the Big Mac Index and the iPad Index (which look at average retail prices), and the cost of living.
As regards desirability, Budapest came in as the 63rd, and it was the 54th best city in terms of employer activity. But it fared much better on the Student View rank, coming in at 39th place. This indicator considered, among other things, the student experiences of tolerance, diversity, friendliness and ease of getting around. There are three institutions in Budapest that are ranked by Quacquarelli Symonds, with Eötvös Loránd University as the highest-ranked one.
