Budget allocation for education insufficient, says Hungarian teachers’ union
The 2019 draft budget is set to result in accumulating problems in education instead of offering solutions, the head of teachers’ trade union PDSZ said on Friday.
As we wrote on Wednesday, Finance Minister Mihály Varga submitted Hungary’s 2019 budget bill to parliament, read more details HERE.
The 15 billion forints (EUR 46.6m) increase in education spending would be hardly enough to keep the sector at the level and it is feared that “the starvation of the sector” could be restarted, Tamás Szűcs told a press conference.
Schools from around the country report delays in payment for teachers’ extra hours and they often find it hard to get funding for even minor tasks, such as lawn mowing, Szűcs said.
He added that PDSZ would be among the so far ten trade unions that have joined a declaration of protest against the planned seventh amendment of the budget which will affect unions.
