Budapest, August 22 (MTI) – The construction of a metal fence along Hungary’s border with Serbia has been completed along some 110 kilometres, according to plans, Napi Gazdasag daily said on Saturday, citing information from the defence ministry.
The completion of a first line of the metal structure aimed to prevent illegal entry along the 175 km border is scheduled by Aug 31.
Locals at Kelebia, a border village and crossing point told the paper that they have not spotted practically any illegal migrants in the area over the past two weeks which they attributed to the fence.
A full barrier structure along the Serbia border is expected to be completed by Nov 30, the paper noted.
A total of 123,000 asylum applications have been submitted in Hungary by mid-August since January, three times more than in 2014 as a whole, Magyar Hirlap said on Saturday citing information by the national immigration office BAH.
Most asylum-seekers arrived from Afghanistan and Syria, the office told the paper.
In 2015, the authority has granted asylum to 82 people and a protected status to another 206. Forty-five children have been placed under international protection, the office said, citing as reason religious persecution or a war situation in their country of origin.

What happens to all the Migrants that do not get asylum status? Do they get sent back from whence they came? What does the country do with the 122,667 remaining from the 123,000 asylum applicants? Will someone please tell all the people in Hungary.
